Gore Introduces New Gasket Tape Series
Gore's Series 300 Gasket Tape
Gore's creep-resistant Series 300 Gasket Tape for steel piping can help lower your sealing system costs.

"Sealing with Certainty™" is Gore's slogan, and that is what its GORE-TEX® Series 300 Gasket Tape is designed for. The newly introduced Series 300 is specifically configured for steel equipment applications. The ideal choice for sealing large-diameter flanges, it can be quickly and easily installed. Since it is conformable and highly compressible, this Tape forms a very tight seal. Its strong, multidirectionally expanded PTFE fibers give excellent creep resistance for a long-lasting seal that withstands virtually any chemical process.

Series 300 Gasket Tape is available in 1/8" thickness for most applications, and 1/16" for equipment with especially tight flange-mating tolerances. It lowers inventory, delivery and installation costs in comparison to sheet gasketing, which it replaces. It withstands virtually all common chemicals and is reliable at temperatures from -450° to +600°F. As an authorized Gore distributor, we can handle all your requirements for GORE-TEX® Tape.

Problem-Solving Application:
Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger

Problem: This Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger (below) had been leaking nitric acid for 30 years, requiring gasket replacement every three months. Maintenance personnel had unsuccessfully tried all kinds of gaskets, from asbestos, spiral wound and corrugated metal to filled gasketing.

Series 300 Gasket Tape has maintained a reliable seal on this Shell & Tube Heat Exchanger since 1999.

Solution: GORE-TEX® Series 300 Gasket Tape proved to be the answer to the problem. It has achieved and maintained a reliable seal since 1999, saving the plant an enormous amount of maintenance and gasket costs, as well as production downtime.

Other Series 300 Applications:
• Dome covers
• Manways
• Large flanges

GORE-TEX® Sealant is a Cost-Effective Alternative to Sheet Gasketing

GORE-TEX® is a form-in-place gasket material that can be used in just about any type of industrial sealing application. It is easy to install, even on vertical surfaces, and it is ideal for large, complex or damaged flanges. Since there is no waste or scrap, GORE-TEX® Joint Sealant usually costs less than other gasketing materials. Furthermore, a stock of three or four widths of this material will replace most of your bulky sheet gasketing stock.

GORE-TEX® Joint Sealant provides many other advantages. It is:

Time-Saving — with a self-adhesive backing and no need for fitting or precutting, it is simply pressed into place. Its ability to withstand high compressive loads, combined with its resistance to creep and cold flow, eliminates the need to retorque after installation.

Highly Versatile — characteristics that make it ideal for a wide range of applications include stability under temperatures from
-450° to +600°F; resistance to most chemicals; and a very low stress-to-seal requirement.

Please contact your Johnson Packings sales representative for information on the sizes and spool lengths of GORE-TEX® that are available for your application.

Protect Your Equipment with ALOMA Shims

Using ALOMA precut Shims will protect your equipment from misalignment and damage and the resulting downtime. ALOMA Shims are produced from 304 stainless steel for corrosion resistance. This manufacturer holds the closest tolerances in the industry for both thickness and flatness. In fact, you can be assured of accurate shim thickness without measuring with a micrometer.

ALOMA Shims will protect your equipment from misalignment and damage. These burr-free standard Shims are available in sizes from AA (for bolts up to 3/8" diameter) to H (for bolts up to 2-1/4" diameter). All ALOMA Shims are permanently etched in both inches and millimeters, and slot sizes are 1/16" oversize to ensure proper bolt clearance.

Call Johnson Packings today to find out which size Shims are available as individual pieces and which can be purchased in packs and kits.

On-Site Training Programs Increase Our Customers' Product Knowledge

Johnson Packings frequently sponsors on-site training programs that are designed to benefit our customers in several ways. A recent example is our Thordon Bearings Seminar that was held in Glen Lake, New York, in September. Two of the participants to whom we spoke came away with some valuable information.

George Moskevitz, Regional Supervisor at CHI Energy, Inc., said, "The seminar made me aware of the many different types of bearings available, the capabilities of each and which one to choose for which application."

Mechanical Technician John McVaigh, of Adirondack Hydro Development Corporation, added, "I found this training to be very informative, especially since design engineers were available to provide problem-solving assistance. It is rare to see so much on-site engineering support."

Johnson Packings' seminars are tailored to your needs and will help educate you on installation procedures and product selection and performance. Call us today for information about on-site training programs for most of our product groups, including gasketing, valve packing, mechanical seals and Thordon Bearings.

Sawyer Plastics, the leading manufacturer of Suction Roll Seal Strips, has introduced two new materials to go along with their premium Polytron® K-2 line. This means that Sawyer now offers you a "Triple Choice" of Seal Strips for budgets of all sizes.

The first new material, Polytron® P, is very competitively priced. Polytron® P is made of vinyl ester marine resin. Its polyester fibers are saturated with resin and mixed with graphite to provide a strong, self-lubricating base material. This material is:

lightweight and flexible not brittle and will not break
easily handled and installed resistant to harsh chemicals

Polytron® A-2 is Sawyer's other new material. Similar in fabrication to Polytron® P, it resists hot, harsh water environments and will never swell. The Polytron® A-2 Suction Roll Rebuild Kit, available from Johnson Packings, consists of Polytron® A-2 Suction Roll Seal Strips; Polytron® A-2 End Deckles, engineered to exacting tolerances; and Polytube™ Airload Tubes.

Please note that, for a minimal charge, patented Teflon® lubricating bars can be machined into the wear surface of either material.
